Fulfillment is living in the Center of Your Destiny

July 10, 2011

There seems to be a growing sense of uneasiness in many people today. Some are coming to a point in their lives that makes them think, “There’s more to life than this”. This uncertainty is bringing people to a place to ask bigger questions about their life.

“What was I made to do?”
“Was I born for a purpose?”
“Am I going to exist and then die…is that the way it’s supposed to be?”

I’m a firm believer that everyone was created for a purpose. But sometimes we believe that purpose is too good to be true. Therefore, we turn and go in a less appealing direction because someone recommended another path, or we feel unworthy to go otherwise.

Unfortunately, that barren path then leads to disappointment, resentment, and even depression. But the question is, “Is it too late to change?” My response will always be, ”No!” It’s never too late to turn your life around to do what you were called to do.

I know a man who was lead by the direction of his family and became a physician. He was highly paid, highly respected, and needless to say, highly worked. He was miserable. His desire was to live a life that he could enjoy with his family as well as help others. But he didn’t want one desire to be at the expense of the other. Later in years, his quest was to find what was missing in his life.

He later gave up being a physician later and became a Life Coach. He’s able to help others as well as spend time with his family. He’s no longer on call every weekend and evening. Now he feels he is able to live his life to the fullest as he was designed to do. I found this physician’s life interesting because I am a registered nurse. I had become very unhappy with my life even though I was successful in my profession. The boldness of this physician to leave his career and start another career inspired me. That’s why I too became a Life Coach. I coach people to break free from bondage and begin a new and exciting new life. I’m finally doing what I feel I was created to do!

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in your profession, career, or duty; you have a choice to do the very thing you were created to do. To move into your new calling, I recommend you do the following steps:

1. Pray – I always pray when making big decisions such as changing my career. God is faithful to reveal the direction you are to travel.
2. Write – Write down your unique gifts, desires, passions. What really excites you? If you could wake up tomorrow and one miracle that places you somewhere in life doing what you love to do, what would that be? Write it down. Let yourself dream!
3. Research – What training, certification, or development do you need? What programs are available? What will the cost be? Is there funding or grants available? Don’t give up!
4. Goals – Write your goals. Write goals for each day, week, year, as well as your long-term goals. Place your goals where you see them every day. Be faithful to your goals. But remember to write goals that you can achieve. If you write goals that are unachievable, then it could cause a great deal of frustration.
5. Act – Do, move, act! Don’t sit around and do nothing. Move towards your dream. Even if it means working towards your dream in the evenings or weekends… your dream is worth it!
6. Finish – Don’t give up. Push towards the finish line! Age doesn’t matter. Gender doesn’t matter. Limitations don’t matter. Do what you can to make your greatest dream come to pass – and God will do the rest.

Your purpose is worth the effort. You never want to find yourself at the end of your life wishing you had done more of what you love to do. Find, follow, and finish your God-given purpose!
